By 2030, solar energy is to be increased almost 27 times in Norway. In order to achieve this, home batteries should also be subsidised, the solar energy industry believes. Install solar panels and batteries at home is too expensive and does not pay off. The government has set a target for new solar energy of eight 8 TWh by 2030, whereas today only 0.3 TWh is produced per year. Approximately 10,000 solar cell systems have been installed on private houses in Norway, and half of these were installed during the last 10 months. Two out of three home owners in Norway say that home battery subsidies make it more likely for them to install solar cells at home. The government is reticent to grant subsidies, given that the minerals from which batteries are made are scarce resources that are most needed in the transport industry.
