The need for improvements to northern Norwegian infrastructure has become acute

In 2023 there were almost a thousand canceled ferry trips on the connections Kjøpsvik-Drag, Bognes-Skarberget and Bognes-Lødingen. The government will now allocate four billion kroner for the new E6 – and new tunnels – between Megården and Sommerset. The Norwegian Public Roads Administration presented a separate report on future transport solutions in the north. It reveals a total investment need of NOK 184 billion for major road and transport initiatives in the north of Norway. It also studied the feasibility of building a new railway line from Fauske to Tromsø, although it concluded that it is both unrealistic and extremely expensive, especially when the need for improvements to the existing infrastructure is acute.
