The transition from gas export to hydrogen export must start now, in order to secure an important, future market for Norwegian gas. Hydrogen is absolutely necessary to achieve the climate goals and is the key to decarbonising heavy industry, ships and aircraft. the EU is now opening the door to importing almost emission-free blue hydrogen from natural gas – at least in the short and medium term. This is an opportunity the Norwegian authorities and the industry must prioritize higher. Norway should also invest in green hydrogen, but for blue hydrogen Norway’s position is unique.
